A delegation of researchers from Atlantic Futures attended the Irish Academy of Management Conference in Cork recently.
A team from Atlantic Futures were delighted to attend the Irish Academy of Management (IAM) Conference at Munster Technological University in the beautiful city of Cork recently.
The IAM, Ireland’s leading professional association for management studies, research, and education, held its annual conference from 27th to 29th August at Munster Technolgical University.
The conference covered diverse areas of research, from SMEs to education and global strategy and members of our team travelled both to attend the three day conference, and to present some of their work.
Three members of the Atlantic Futures team were in attendance for the three day conference, providing representation for two key research areas on the project.
In attendance were Amanda Calderwood from RS2 - 'Business Scaling in the Atlantic Corridor', Kyron Hoare from RS5 - ' Digitalisation: Challenges and Opportunities for Smaller Regional Innovation Systems' and Prof. Kristel Miller, who is involved in both research streams.
Amanda told us:
I was privileged to present my own paper, on behalf of Atlantic Futures, on organisational scaling, sharing findings from a systematic literature review, along with practical strategies to navigate this complex journey and foster sustainable growth. I was grateful to receive positive feedback from professionals who recognised the significance of organisational scaling research, particularly for the impacts it can have on peripheral regions.
The event featured a wide range of business disciplines and also included a Doctoral Colloquium, in which Kyron Hoare participated in.
I was there to attend both the doctoral colloquium and the main conference, which was first of all a great opportunity to connect with fellow PhD researchers and get valuable feedback on my research so far. The conference gave us a chance to see how exactly the research we're doing on our region fits in with work on various themes across the whole island, particularly for digital transformation of businesses and regions in my case.
One of the main conference highlights was the keynote address from Andrew Wyckoff, former Director for Science, Technology, and Innovation at the OECD, on "The Next Technological Wave: Preparing for Disruption". His thought-provoking insights and engaging presentation set the tone for the conference, fuelling our curiosity and enthusiasm for learning more about the future of technology and innovation.
Prof Kristel Miller added:
The Irish Academy of Management is a great event to showcase the work of Atlantic Futures and to explore further collaborations and synergies with researchers from across the Island of Ireland and beyond
A huge thank you to to the IAM and our wonderful hosts at Munster Technological University. We're already looking forward to next year’s conference!
